Misho's Oyster Company was started in 1972 by Misho and Franka Ivić. They come from a family with a long line of Dalmatian Oystermen that have worked on the Gulf Coast since the mid-1800's. Franka's ancestors came to the USA from Dalmatia, Croatia in search of a better life and found it by farming oysters on the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Misho worked his way through college on his first oyster boat, Salona, and Franka was often his deckhand. After his graduation they moved to Texas and built a life, a business, and a big family. All six of the Ivić children have grown up on and around oyster boats and the family business, which now spans four generations. The Ivićs are proud to have been in this industry for over 50 years and look forward to many more.
Misho’s harvested fresh oysters meet the globally recognized MSC standards for environmental sustainability and well-managed fishing practices.
As a proud provider of fresh oysters, Misho’s Oyster Company has worked diligently to meet these rigorous requirements to ensure sustainable seafood practices while maintaining healthy Texas and Louisiana oyster reefs. Additionally, Misho’s Oyster Co. holds FDA, DSHS, and HACCP certifications, further reflecting its commitment to providing customers the freshest quality oysters.

Misho Ivić has worked with lawmakers and fellow oystermen to pass legislation that protects and builds Texas reefs since the 1980s. He continues to work towards the preservation and health of the Texas Oyster Industry by serving on the Texas Oyster Advisory Committee.

In 1988, Misho helped pass the self imposed oyster shell tax. This meant that every oyster dealer would pay a tax on every harvested sack in order to create funds to build new reefs on the Texas Gulf Coast.
In 2017, Misho helped pass House Bill 51. This bill guaranteed that 30 percent of all empty oyster shells would be returned to the bay to rebuild reefs.

Sustainability begins and ends on the oyster reef. Misho’s Oyster Co. recycles every oyster shell from their processing facility and from Gilhooley’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar. Misho’s family has been building reefs by bedding limestone and recycled oyster shells for over four generations.

In 2014, Misho’s Oyster Co. donated 200 tons of recycled oyster shells, and his boats and labor to build Landry’s Reef in Kemah, Texas. Since then, Misho’s Oyster Co. has continued to restore and build reefs for the State of Texas.
