Misho’s Oyster Company History

Misho’s Oyster Company, a proud family-owned oyster business, was established in 1972 by Misho and Franka Ivić. Coming from a lineage of Dalmatian Oystermen with roots in the Gulf Coast dating back to the mid-1800s, Franka’s ancestors immigrated from Dalmatia, Croatia, in pursuit of a better life, which they found by farming oysters on the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Misho earned his way through college on his first oyster boat, Salona, with Franka frequently serving as his deckhand. After graduating, they relocated to Texas, where they built a flourishing life, a successful business, and a large family. All six of the Ivić children grew up immersed in the family business on and around oyster boats. Now spanning four generations, Misho’s Oyster Company celebrates over 50 years in the history of oyster farming and eagerly anticipates many more to come.
